About

Feminism has become (or perhaps has always been) one dirty little F-word. I never realized how dirty people perceived it to be until I moved from the liberal/moderate Midwest to the conservative west. As a result of the culture shock I experienced, I found that I needed to question my own beliefs, and most importantly educate myself about what it is I believe in and why – in particular, I’ve become more aware of my belief in the inherent equality of all people and the importance of using one’s privilege to advocate for that equality. I found that I began to see the world through new lenses, and that I could no longer think and read without acting. I needed to become a contributor, not just a connoisseur. It was time to get to work. Thanks to my new feminist lenses, I see things differently than I used to. I find that I have strong reactions to many of the messages I’m exposed to through television, movies and music. I’m becoming more selective about the individuals, businesses and causes I support, and I’ve begun to develop my own little feminist library. The goal of this site is to motivate me to organize my thoughts, and put them out there for others to consider and react to.

My hope is to develop a scrapbook of sorts of my personal journey as a developing feminist, and a time-capsule of feminist analysis. Over time, I hope that others will come alongside me to offer contributions from their own journeys, and that a community (large or small) will develop and create a dialogue about feminism today that will extend beyond the site and into the everyday lives of the readers, commenters, and contributors.
I hope that you’ll join me (and some other contributors) along the way.
So who are we, anyway?
For the moment, its just a couple of us, but I hope to bring in more friends as contributors once things get rolling. You can find out more about each of us at the links below!
We want to hear from you, too!

If you are interested in guest- or cross-posting at feministhemes.com, please contact me at misswizze(at)feministhemes.com with your ideas. We also welcome tips, feedback, and requests for links (you scratch our back, we’ll scratch yours). Consider this your invitation to get involved!
In order to make this easier, we’ve implemented a poll in the sidebar where you can indicate what you’d like to see more of, and a five star rating system for each post. If you loved a post, give it a high rating so we know we’re doing things right! If you didn’t like a post as much (it wasn’t original or didn’t contribute anything new to the public discourse, it wasn’t clear or well written, the topic was uninteresting) you can indicate that with a lower rating. We’ll try to incorporate this feedback in future posts or features!

Comments Policy
It’s important to me to not only provide a forum for discussion of the topics we write about, but to make sure that such forums are safe places where commenters and authors are treated with respect, whether or not someone agrees with the writer’s points. For this reason (and to prevent trolls and spammers from taking over), comments are moderated and may take a little while to appear (so please be patient!). Additionally, I and the other contributors reserve the following rights:
- Disallow, reject, and delete comments containing hurtful content, offensive language, or that are just generally inappropriate or annoying.
- Edit comments for formatting or clarification purposes, censor inappropriate language in an otherwise thoughtful comment (we will note that the comment has been edited).
- Block inappropriate commenters who have abused the guidelines above.
This comment policy is not intended to create a censored or biased discussion, but to protect our readers and commenters from hurtful comments and attacks. Now that you know you’re protected:
